CODE OF CONDUCT
FOR VOLUNTEERS & WORKERS ENGAGED IN ALL FORMS OF PASTORAL & PARISH WORK WITH ADULTS IN FLETCHING PARISH

A volunteer or worker must:

  • Endeavour to treat everyone with respect, loyalty, patience, integrity, courtesy, dignity and consideration.

  • Use positive reinforcement rather than criticism, competition or comparison when working with all people of the parish.

  • Refuse to accept expensive gifts. Refrain from giving expensive gifts to parishioners.

  • Report suspected abuse to the authorised parish safeguarding person, priest, wardens and the appropriate authorities. Co-operate fully in any formal investigation of abuse.

A volunteer/worker must not:

  • Use, or be under the influence of alcohol at any time whilst engaged in ‘pastoral’ duties (e.g. visiting the sick/housebound); humiliate, strike, restrain (unless in an emergency situation); ridicule, threaten or degrade adult parishioners.

  • Touch parishioners in a sexual or other inappropriate manner.

  • Avoid language that frightens, and never intentionally humiliate parishioners.

All persons volunteering/working with parishioners are subject to a thorough background check, including criminal history. Any action inconsistent with this code of parish conduct or failure to take action mandated by this code may result in being unable to represent Fletching Church as a volunteer or worker.
